Vegetarian cat food


Vegetarian cat food has been mainly introduced by vegetarian cat ownes. Some choose it because of perceived health benefits, but the most part use follow this way due to ethical concerns. Cats are carnivores and therefore require nutrients contained in meat. This special nutrients are not available in plant sources. So unsupplemented vegetarian cat diets can harm the cat.

Some cat food brands offer special vegetarian cat foods. They sell both standalone or supplemental vegetarian cat food. Depending on their type the producers try to add the special nutrients from meat by adding synthetically produced nutrients. But this doesn’t solve the problem of the difference in acitidy between meat and vegetable proteins. So it is not completly save to avoid meat as cat food. The cat can life long an healthy with vegetarian cat food, but you have to check regulary if she is really ok at your vet.

If you want to avoid a full meal diet you can mix certain vegetarian cat food products with meal, this way the cat gets all the nutrients she needs .
